Getting started with our services is easy! Follow the steps below or feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, need any more information or need to check out something with us. We are here to help! Even if you are not sure what type of therapy or support you want or need, don't worry - we will discuss this via email or in-person at the Assessment Session.

Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT Therapy)

CBT is an evidence-based approach which has been proven to work effectively in overcoming problems and challenging situations in the here and now and in the past.


CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is recommended by The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (N.I.C.E.) as a treatment for anxiety, depression, OCD, phobias, acute stress, PTSD, eating disorders and is very helpful in the treatment of many other problems/conditions.   • CBT is a systems approach based on the 5-factor model. This means that you and your therapist explore and talk through your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, physical sensations and environment/situation and discuss how these influence each other to maintain your concerns and problems. Counselling


Counselling allows you to discuss problems and difficult feelings in a safe, confidential environment. Generally, counselling is a process people seek when they want to change something in their lives or simply explore their thoughts and feelings in more depth. The basic principles of counselling are:


  • You will be encouraged to talk about what's bothering you in order to uncover any root causes and identify your specific ways of thinking.
  • The therapist will create a plan of action to either help you reconcile your issues or help you find ways of coping.
  • Counselling is tailored to you individually to improve your quality of life and help you address the concerns and problems you are facing.
  • Common concerns, issues and problems that can be addressed. within counselling include: eating disorders; depression; low mood; anxiety; relationship issues; addictions; bereavement; trauma; work-related issues; bullying; and much more. Stress Management Therapy/Coaching


If you feel stressed out by modern life, you're not alone! Stress has major health consequences and diminishes our ability to enjoy life. Stress Management Therapy/Coaching is ideally suited to helping you cope with and reduce stress. Some of the basic key principles of Stress Management Therapy/Coching are:

 

  • During sessions, you will develop strategies and techniques that will help you to take control of the stress in your life.
  • You will learn to both manage and reduce stress so you can achieve improved psychological, emotional and physical health, as well as an improved quality of life.

Group Therapy


Group Therapy is a type of psychological therapy that takes place within a group of people rather than one-on-one with just one other person (i.e. the therapist).

 

Group Therapy and one-to-one therapy are alike in many ways and have similar aims. However, during Group Therapy, therapists make use of group dynamics to achieve these aims in a different way. Here's more details about Group Therapy:

 

  • Groups are run by at least two qualified psychotherapists/counsellors who have experience of facilitating groups and group-work.
  • Takes place weekly/fortnightly (for 2 hours), at the same time, with the same members, for a particular period of time (e.g. 6 weeks). Click 'Read More' below for more information.

Online Therapy & Support


PLEASE NOTE: we will begin providing this in winter 2018. Online Therapy (or e-therapy) is a relatively new development in mental health and psychotherapy. Therapists provide emotional and psychological support in real-time and therapy can be accessed in the comfort of your home. The basic principles of Online Therapy are:


  • The main difference between online and face-to-face therapy is that Online Therapy and Support are provided online. The same working agreements, confidentiality, privacy procedures, boundaries etc. also apply to Online Therapy.
  • It offers a sense of anonymity for those who feel that this is important when accessing therapy.

Integrative Psychotherapy/Therapy


Integrative Therapy draws from various therapeutic approaches, allowing us to tailor therapy to each individual client as much as we can.


Integrative Therapy incorporates elements, ideas and tools from, for instance: general counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, person-centred approaches, behavioural activation, dialectical behavioural therapy, stress management therapy, mindfulness, schema therapy, compassion focused therapy, lifestyle coaching and elements of other approaches. Coaching


Coaching aims to empower you to make, meet and exceed personal and professional goals including: accomplishing work targets; becoming happy and fulfilled at home, exploring self and the world; achieving ambitions; and much more. Coaching:


  • Proposes the idea that clients must be given the power to help themselves.
  • Provides you with tools and techniques to confidently face difficult situations, push past emotional barriers and eventually view life from a new and more hopeful, perspective.
  • Sessions are typically for a specific duration (e.g. 8 weeks) and involves a partnership between you and your therapist/coach who will encourage you to explore how to make positive changes in life. Guided CBT Self-Help (with a therapist)


Guided Self-Help is a half-way option between 'traditional' therapy and self-help. It’s a little less formal than psychotherapy/counselling. Guided Self-Help is based on a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach to supporting people with various problems, issues and concerns. Some of the basic key principles of Guide Self-Help are:


  • It's is an evidence-based, problem-focused approach to changing the way you think, feel and behave. You will be working with a professional, qualified therapist during sessions.
  • The therapist will assist and guide you in working through self-help workbooks and materials (included in the price) available to support you to make the changes you want.

Personal Development/Self-Help Classes


We provide various Personal Development and Self-Help Classes. These are open to anyone over 16 years old. Many Classes and Workshops focus on 'Psychoeducation' (more information in the Information Sheet below).

 

Classes help you grow and develop your ability to plan, develop and work towards goals. Goals may include: reducing anxiety; increasing self-esteem; improving confidence; challenging negative thoughts; making changes; addressing emotional or mental health difficulties; self-awareness; and much more.

Support Groups & Social Clubs


Our established Support Groups started in Spring 2010 (Eating Disorder Support Groups) and have been very valuable to 100s of people from all over Scotland. We've seen many people 'recover' and make many changes in their lives. This is very inspiring and rewarding to witness.

 

We are now introducing some other Support Groups - Family and Friends Eating Disorder Support Group, Glasgow Women's Support Group and a Mindfulness Club. Click the 'Read More' button below more details below.

 

  • Our groups are regulated, have boundary/confidentiality policies and managed by professionals and others who have personal experience of various issues, including eating disorders, anxiety, depression, negative body image low self-esteem and more.
